Many  times, you must have heard that it’s quite tough to learn  how to speak Thai. However, its totally depends on your trainer and the methods he/she is using to make you learn speak Thai language. Like every other language some concepts are very easy to understand however, others take some time to get clear off the confusions. Following are some of the aspects that make your experience to learn” to speak Thai” quite tough.

Consonants and Vowels: While learning  how to speak thai, you’d come across 36 vowels and 44 consonants that are there in the Thai alphabet. The list of consonants is long however, it can be leaned quite easily than Japanese or Chinese.

The Tonal Language: If you’re western native speaker, you use tonal variants according to the sentence. However, if you learn  how to speak Thai you’d need to learn five different tonal variants; low tone, high tone, mid tone, falling tone and the rising tone and you use the tonal variants on each word. If you use wrong tonal variant, it will change the meaning of the word and may lead to miscommunication.

Interpretation of Thai Words from Western Perspective: Thailand has a very culture and if you want to learn  how to speak  Thai; first you need to learn about the culture. Unlike, western languages Thai is a high context language. Therefore, you’d need to also understand the body language of the speaker to learn Thai language completely.

If you’ve read the tough aspects of learning Thai language, it does not mean that you cannot speak the language. Following are some of the things that are easy to understand and will make your experience of learning the language really fun.

How To Speak Thai and Grammar.

Grammar: If you’re learning  to speak Thai, the grammar is very easy to adapt. You’ll not find any inflections, declensions and conjugations like western languages. In English, you need to take care of agreement between subject and verb however, in Thai, words do not change their form if there is a change in person, number gender or tense. Moreover, there are no articles and usually if a word is not required in communication you can omit it. Therefore, you’ll find the structure of the sentences quite simple while learning how to speak Thai.

Compound Words: There are many words in Thai language that form new words if you use them in compounds. It is an easy way to understand unknown words. For instance, in Thai language “Pla” means fish and water means “Naam.” If you’re traveling in Thailand and hear the word “Naam-Pla,” you should know that it means fish water or fish sauce.

Now, you’ve seen the tough as well as easy aspects of the language. If you want to learn speaking Thai, then you just need to understand the difference between difficult and impossible. Hard thing in learning the language is only the difference in the usage of tonal variants. If you understand the difference between your mother tongue and Thai, you can easily learn the Thai language.
